The highlight of this publication is the excellent presentation of pictures galore in almost every page! "Our brain can process images 60,000 times faster than it can process words. In an instant, an image can convey an idea or an emotion which would stick with you much longer than the words on a page. ....The image must be meaningful enough to stand on its own."This book wonderully meets these criteria. Many things we handle in our daily lives, we do not think of knowing where they come from. The pictures in the book stimulates our spritual quest as how a tiny seed could give us all the fruits and vegetables and wood for our buildings. When I had a small party at home, I served my guests Rose from Phillipines and Shalini from U K, coconut wiater available in supermarkets. They had not ever earlier tasted it. The picture in the book at page 63 gave them the immediate answer and surely every picture in the book would have equal significance. At page 35(?), an interesting statement is made that many people practice yoga for years without understanding the imporance of developing Sattvic (pure, soul-searching) thoughts, This statement should be an awakening for all yoga practitioners worldwide. It is adorable that lot of research and effort have resulted in this publication. The book has full of information, a source of knowledge rarely presented and a must in every household.

This book will make a great reference guide and culinary friend to anyone interested in the magic healing properties of Indian herbs and spices. I am especially very pleased to know Uma Swaminathan, the author who has a very graceful and calming presence about her . Definitely a great buy to add to one's library of thoughtful books.

In addition to your magnificent graphics and the wealth of information, I must say that I really enjoyed how you integrated your own story with so many of the herbal descriptions. I thought that gave the whole book a lot of credibility in addition to all your research – you know all this information because you grew up with it and you still use it today.
